For the second consecutive Tuesday, the West Seattle Community Orchestras invited the community to the Chief Sealth International High School auditorium, to hear their musicians’ spring concerts; tonight was the 50+-member West Seattle Symphony Orchestra‘s turn. Our 7-minute video clip captures the highlight of the night, the world premiere of conductor Rob Duisberg‘s “Fantasies and Fugues.” The program also included classics – from composers including Beethoven, Copland, Haydn, and Stravinsky.
The West Seattle Community Orchestras
welcomes all musicians, beginning to advanced, young to
antique. Each orchestra is open to all ages, youth through
adult, with informal auditions for placement in one of
the three different orchestras to suit your individual
skill level:
West Seattle Debut Orchestra:
This ensemble is for those who are just
getting started playing, young and old. Through a
generous grant from The Wallace Foundation through the
Seattle Youth Symphony, the Westside Strings has
professional players giving individual instruction and
group coaching.
West Seattle Intermediate Orchestra:
This ensemble is for those that may only have a few years
experience or have advanced from the Debut Orchestra.
This group will give you the full symphony experience, a
unique opportunity in West Seattle.
West Seattle Symphony Orchestra: Our
top orchestra, playing standard symphonic repertoire.
West Seattle Adult Beginning Strings:
This class is for adults who have little or no experience with orchestral string instruments,
violin, viola, cello, or bass. Students will need to provide their own instrument and supplies
(e.g., rosin, rock stop). Students must also purchase New Directions in Strings, book 1 (about $10).
(Instructor can have it available if notified in advance.)
DATES: Tuesday, January 10 through Tuesday, February 14 (total of six weeks).
COST: $65 per person for the 6-week session.
NOTES: taught by Toni Reineke, conductor of our Intermediate Orchestra and longtime teacher of student
beginners for Seattle Public Schools. For more info contact Mariane at
info@wscorchestras.org, or 206-484-9110.
Participation in the West Seattle Community
Orchestras is offered free of charge to all students
K-12. We ask adults to contribute $65 per semester toward
our costs.
